A Conversation About Books

The Jeffersonville Township Public Library invites the public on Tuesday, Nov. 14, from 1 to 2 p.m. at the Jeffersonville location for a conversation about books.

Join for a relaxing and informal hour devoted to books. It’s a time to share what you’ve been reading and what genres you like. If the conversation gets off-topic and leads to a discussion about other things, we will go with the flow. This hour is a great way to reconnect with old friends and make new ones.

Empower Me to be Clutter Free

The Jeffersonville Township Public Library will host Empower Me to be Clutter Free on Tuesday, Nov. 14, from 6 to 7 p.m. at its Clarksville location. The library is partnering with the Clark County Extension Office to help you get organized. Health and Human Sciences Educator Emma Finerfrock will offer tips and tricks to help free yourself from clutter. This free program is a two-part series. Session one looks to identify the negative effects of clutter, emotional barriers to decluttering efforts, and decluttering strategies. Session two will be on Tuesday, Nov. 21, from 6 to 7 p.m. This session addresses paper clutter, personal filing systems, and guidelines for storing important documents. Participants will have the opportunity to develop an organizational action plan during the class sessions.

Clarksville Library hosting Book Clubs

The Jeffersonville Township Public Library will host two book clubs this month at its Clarksville location. The Literary Ladies Book Club will meet on Wednesday, Nov. 15, from 6 to 7 p.m. to discuss The Poisonwood Bible by Barbara Kingsolver. This club reads women’s literature and books written by female authors. The Wednesday Readers Book Club will meet on Wednesday, Nov. 29, from 1 to 2 p.m. to discuss Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children by Ransom Riggs. This club reads a variety of books, both fiction and non-fiction.

Balanced Living Health Class

The Jeffersonville Township Public Library invites the public to join us on Thursday, Nov. 16, from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Jeffersonville location for Balanced Living Health Class with Pastor Joseph Quiles.

The first topic is Up in Smoke. No matter how you smoke it, tobacco is considered harmful to one’s health. Most smokers eventually want to quit and find that it’s easier said than done.

The second topic discussed is Alcohol — Why Not? The current thinking is that any amount of alcohol consumed is too much; it’s not just the heavy drinkers whose health is at risk.

Feature Film Series

The Jeffersonville Township Public Library will host a feature film on Thursday, Nov. 16, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at its Clarksville location. This month’s film tells the story of a small town that is upended when a UFO and its extra-terrestrial passenger crash land in western Pennsylvania.

Mommy and Me Storytime

The Jeffersonville Township Public Library will host Mommy and Me Storytime on Thursday, Nov. 16, from 10:30 – 11:15 a.m. at its Clarksville location. This program is perfect for children 6 months to 36 months to enhance their socialization skills.

Mrs. Q will provide a semi-guided play experience, allowing babies and toddlers to learn and explore through play. This storytime is ideal for small children not exposed to new people, places, and events. Little ones can crawl, play, and make new friends, while moms and caregivers have the opportunity to connect and socialize.

Lunch and Thanksgiving Trivia

The Jeffersonville Township Public Library invites the public to join at the Jeffersonville location on Friday, Nov. 17, from noon – 2 p.m. for an afternoon of Lunch and Thanksgiving trivia brought to you by Dustin Manecke, Community Relations Manager of Oak Street Health. Although Oak Street Health specializes in care for those 65 and older, this event is not age-restrictive.

While you are enjoying a light lunch, there will be a presentation about Oak Street Health and what they have to offer. What could be more fun than playing Thanksgiving trivia just in time for Thanksgiving? We ask that everyone pre-register so that we can make sure there will be adequate refreshments and seating for everyone.

Beyond True Crime

The Jeffersonville Township Public Library will host Beyond Hoosier True Crime on Saturday, Nov. 18, from 2 to 3 p.m. at its Clarksville location. Beyond Hoosier True Crime examines notorious cases of true crime in the United States.

Those attending will explore how the criminal justice system handles these crimes and resolves their outcomes. Attendees are encouraged to participate in the discussion and to suggest future cases to be covered. Due to the mature content being discussed, this program is for adults 18 and older.

Focus Group on Extreme Weather

The Jeffersonville Township Public Library invites the public on Saturday, Nov. 18, from 2:30 – 4:30 p.m. at the Jeffersonville location for a focus group about extreme weather and natural disasters.

The Indiana University School of Public Health is holding this focus group. Researchers will use the information obtained to understand your experiences with extreme weather and disasters. This information may help develop programs to support community preparedness.

Space is limited and registration is requested. For more information, you are asked to send an email to mekamulv@iu.edu. The discussions are led by Indiana University and have been approved by their Institutional Review Board.

The Life and Times of Carter Stanley

The Jeffersonville Township Public Library invites the public to join on Monday, Nov. 20, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at the Jeffersonville location for a remarkable one-person show. A Life of Sorrow, created by Virginia actor Gary Reid, uses a mix of storytelling and music to bring to life the saga of an Appalachian Mountain music treasure!

Carter Stanley was an expressive singer and songwriter. As the frontman for the legendary Stanley Brothers duo, he spent 20 years pounding the pavement to take his gift to anyone who would listen.

A bluegrass enthusiast and historian for over 45 years, Gary Reid is regarded as the foremost authority on the Stanley Brothers’ music. In 2009, Reid put together a one-person show about Carter Stanley. He has appeared in more than 70 productions and events at regional community theatres as an actor, producer, and stage manager and has appeared in several short films and commercials. In addition, Reid is the published author of The Music of the Stanley Brothers.

Medicare 101

The Jeffersonville Library invites you on Tuesday, Nov. 21, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. and Saturday, Nov. 25, from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Jeffersonville location to learn about Medicare 101: Parts A, B, C, & D.

This program benefits those turning 65, current Medicare beneficiaries, and those who want a refresher.

There will be a question-and-answer period before and after each presentation. Join us for one or both sessions.

Crochet Class

The Jeffersonville location of the Jeffersonville Township Public Library on Saturday, Nov. 25, from noon to 2 p.m. will sponsor a crochet class. The class is for those who want to learn how to crochet or fine-tune your skills.

Joyce Ellis, our instructor, would like participants to bring a size H needle and a solid color skein of yarn. Time spent at the library among old and new friends is a wonderful way to enjoy your weekend

Kids Create

The Clarksville Library is hosting Kids Create on Saturday, Nov. 25, from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. at its Clarksville location. Join for a free afternoon of ornament-making. This month, participants will create a variety of holiday ornaments, including Hanukkah stars, Kwanzaa drums, wreaths, and angels. All supplies will be provided, and registration is required. The program is for grades K – 5, and children in grades K – 2 must be accompanied by an adult.
