Evansville’s Trail with a Tale will tell a Halloween story alongside other fun Halloween-themed activities!
If you’ve never heard of a storybook trail, you’re missing out on something pretty cool! We have a few storybook trails around the Evansville area, and what they are is a trail that tells a story as you walk along. It’s a great way to encourage learning and physical activity for kids. BelieveinBooks.org describes a storybook trail as:
You can take a walk and read a story on our Storybook Trail and experience great children’s stories in a unique way. It’s a wonderful way for the family to read and play together. We feel that early exposure to simple outdoor activity in a family setting will encourage lifelong healthy habits. Exercise for the brain and body.
The Evansville Vanderburgh Public Library, Your Brother’s Bookstore, and Altrusa all teamed up to bring a really fun and spooky family event to Evansville on October 28th. A Halloween story will be told along the storybook trail at Evansville’s State Hospital Grounds on the east side. The event will also host trick-or-treating outdoor games, crafts, and more!
In a press release from Altrusa, they say the event will even include a free book for the first 100 kids:
Parents and children are invited to walk the storybook trail to read the Halloween story and then visit the story telling area for more stories, outdoor games and fun! Other activities will include making birthday cards for homebound citizens, choosing a free book to take home (first 100 children) and enjoying Halloween treats.
Children accompanied by parents will also be able to sign up for their very own library card to check out books all year long.
Everyone is invited to come dressed in their trick-or-treat outfit.
This event sounds perfect to take my kiddo to! It’ll happen Saturday, October 21st from 10 AM to Noon at Woodmere Park at the Altrusa Trail with a Tale site. The press release from Altrusa also states that there is a rain date on Sunday, October 22nd from 1-3 PM.
