The Cleveland Browns have released defensive tackle Perrion Winfrey amid a police investigation into allegations he threatened a woman, chased her out of a hotel with a gun and caused bruises on her neck.
Footage appeared on social media on Tuesday night, in which a woman claimed Winfrey, 22, chased her and a friend out of a hotel, pointed his gun and stole her phones.
The same woman also showed off a nasty bruise on her neck with the caption: ‘This is what you stand for @ClevelandBrowns ?!?!’
In the footage a man – which the woman claims is Winfrey – can be heard shouting: ‘I will smack the s*** out of both of y’all. What the fuck is wrong with you… get the f**** out of here, give me that f****** phone.’
According to reports, the two women saw Winfrey in a hotel lobby, with one shouting an insult at him.
They claim the player then became angry, showing he had a gun and threatening them.
Winfrey reportedly left the scene before police arrived and the matter is now subject to an investigation.
On Wednesday morning, the Clevland Browns confirmed they have released the 22-year-old defensive tackle, a fourth-round draft pick last year.
‘The Cleveland Browns have waived DT Perion Winfrey,’ they said in a statement on Wednesday. ‘Winfrey appeared in 13 games as a rookie last season and recorded 22 tackles and half of a sack.’
Cleveland Police confirmed to Mail Sport that Winfrey is listed as a suspect in an aggravated robbery incident. Mail Sport has also contacted the Browns for comment.
Last month, Winfrey had a misdemeanor assault charge against him dropped in Texas after he completed a pretrial diversion program.
The 22-year-old was arrested in April after he allegedly caused ‘bodily injury’ during an argument with a woman he was dating.
Winfrey had a turbulent spell with Cleveland since the Browns drafted him in the fourth round in 2022 out of Oklahoma. He was disciplined by the team as a rookie last season on at least two occasions, and Winfrey acknowledged he needed to mature as a professional.
Winfrey and cornerback Greg Newsome II were recently robbed at gunpoint by six masked men in downtown Cleveland outside a nightclub.
