For me personally, the Halloween season is my favorite time of year to watch a scary movie.  My list this year has included classics like A Nightmare on Elm Street and Halloween, but also some fun and less scary movies like Beetlejuice and Hocus Pocus.  But maybe you’re looking to step outside of the classics this Halloween, might I suggest something that hits a little closer to home?

Not only is this horror movie set in the Hoosier state but it was also filmed in southern Indiana at the West Baden Springs Hotel.  The West Baden Springs Hotel and the French Lick Springs Hotel are both not only beautiful places to stay but both are surrounded by legends of hauntings, so that makes this area the perfect setting for a spooky movie and book!

Indiana native Michael Koryta is an author who was inspired by the town of French Lick.  Michael wrote a book called So Cold the River based in French Lick, that then inspirted a horror movie.  Since the book was set in French Lick, Indiana, there’s no better place for it to be filmed than French lick.

According to French Lick’s website, the movie is a supernatural thriller:

This dark supernatural thriller follows an ex-documentary filmmaker, Erica Shaw. Having her career derailed by a fatal mistake, she is hired to make a documentary about a dying multi-millionaire from an old town in Indiana. As she starts to uncover the secret horrors of her new surroundings, she soon realizes that the subject of her investigation isn’t who he claims to be.
