Coroner IDs woman found dead in Summerville hotel

BERKELEY COUNTY, S.C. (WCSC) – The Summerville Police Department is investigating after a 46-year-old woman was found dead at the Country Inn & Suites Hotel in Summerville.

Marissa Decker, of Pennsylvania, died from a gunshot wound, Berkeley County coroner Darnell Hartwell said.

Officers responded to the Country Inn & Suites Hotel on Tuesday in reference to an unresponsive woman in a hotel room, Capt. Chris Hirsch said.

When they arrived, officers noticed Decker lying on the floor along with a spent shell casing, according to Hirsch.

While investigating, a person of interest was identified. However, authorities say that the person was found dead from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot in North Charleston on Sunday, Hirsch said.

The Summerville Police Department is investigating the incident as a homicide.
