A 26-year-old man has been charged after his mother was found dead inside a home in Tracy on Friday night, according to police. Carla Carroll, 65, was the “obvious victim of a homicide,” according to the Tracy Police Department, which responded to a call from a family member about a deceased person at a residence on the 1700 block of Thicket Court around 9:30 p.m. Tracy police detectives began investigating and determined that the victim’s son, Spencer Carroll, was responsible for her death. A possible motive remained unclear Saturday.”It’s an evolving investigation,” said Sgt. Michael Richards, of the Tracy Police Department. “Right now, we don’t know. We’re still trying to figure that out.”Richards said Carroll had been shot at least once and that a gun was found in the home.Richards said Spencer Carroll was already in the San Joaquin County Jail when investigators named him as a suspect in his mother’s death. Richards said Spencer Carroll was arrested in Stockton Friday evening in an unrelated investigation after a disturbance in a Stockton neighborhood. He was re-arrested on Saturday morning and charged with one count of homicide, Richards said. Richards said Carla Carroll was well-known in the city, and a well-respected member of the community.”Just because a suspect is taken into custody, it doesn’t mean the investigation is over,” Richards said. “There’s still a lot of background work to do.”Anyone with information on the case is being asked to call 209-831-6534.
